How to stop pivot table columns resizing in Excel

Prevent column widths changing when pivot tables refresh

Pivot tables make like easier for people when analysing data in Excel, but sometimes they have a few annoying habits. Often I find that I build a nice looking report: Everything is clear and easy to read and nothing is obscured from the reader. But when the user refreshes a pivot table or makes a change to one, the columns autofit for the pivot table and other data below the table may become obscured:

So how can we prevent pivot table columns from resizing automatically? In Excel 2010 simply right click the pivot table select Pivot Table Options, and on the Layout & Format tab untick the box next to “Autofit column widths on update”. Now you can click OK, set the desired column width, and they won’t change when you interact with the pivot table.
